Mixed hold’em was the name of the game for the 12th event of the 2008 Poker Stars World Championships of Online Poker. Every fifteen minutes, the game switched from limit to no-limit and back again. A total of 1,496 players took to the virtual felt for this short-handed event. They each bought in for the requisite $320 and drove up the prize pool, leaving a total of $448,800 at stake for the lucky money finishers.
Some of the Poker Stars pros in attendance were: Isabelle Mercier, Barry Greenstein, Tom McEvoy, Katja Thater and Luca Pagano. Thater made some cash in the tourney, earning $942.48 for 96th place. The majority of the top thirty finishers had cashed in the 2008 WCOOP already. At the ten-hour mark, the final table was set. Aaron “011180” Kanter was at the top of the heap with nearly 1.7 million chips in his stack.
In the end, Kanter, winner of a FTOPS event (IVth edition, 1st event) and a Bodog Sunday $100,000 GTD (December 9, 2007 as well as a seat at the 2005 WSOP Main Event, faced Randy “Randers” Haddox, a Texan who has earned more than half a million dollars online and cashed twice at the 2008 WSOP. The duo battled it valiantly, but Haddox had the edge. He raked in the final pot and claimed the extra cash as well as the bracelet that was left after the two pros agreed to a chop.
