580 players stepped up to the plate for the 31st event of the 2008 Poker Stars World Championships of Online Poker. The $1,050 buy-in short-handed Limit Hold’em tournament had a $580,000 prize pool that was spread out over 84 places.

Some of the money makers in the event included Brock Parker (t_soprano, MariaNuccia), Aaron Bartley (GambleAB), Mark Newhouse (newhizzle) and Chris Moneymaker (money800). One Team PokerStars pro, however, topped them all. Vanessa “LadyMaverick” Rousso, who took second place in last year’s Main Event, finished in third place in this tournament. The talented and brilliant poker player, who completed her undergraduate work at Duke University before moving on to law school at the University of Miami, received nearly $60,000 for her efforts.
In the end, David, “drood” Rood faced aasezz in heads-up play. drood, a regular at PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker who has collected more than $120k in winnings to date, fell short of the top spot in the event as aasezz receive the six-figure prize and the bracelet.
