Poker Stars 2008 WCOOP – Results from Event #3

Serena DaSilva - 9 Sep 2008

2,258 entrants took part in the third event at the third event of the 2008 World Championships of Online Poker (WCOOP) at PokerStars on Saturday, September 6, 2008. Although the guarantee was originally set low at $300,000 for this limit Texas Hold’em tournament, the turnout shattered that at $451,600. The winner was guaranteed almost $75,000, which is not bad for a limit event.

A bunch of Team PokerStars Pros were in attendance at the beginning of the event including Andre Akkari, Katja Thater, Alexandre Gomes, Tom McEvoy, Victor Ramdin and Vanessa Rousso. About five hours into the tournament, the money bubble burst, 324 received some money such as Bill Chen and Gavin Griffin. Steve Paul-Ambrose, winner of the 2006 Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure, was the top finisher amongst the Poker Stars’ pros. He took 39th place.

pfkaok had the unfortunate distinction of being final table bubble person, leaving several notable online players to fight it out for the title such as BadcardsAA, a seven-time final tablist of the Nightly Hundred Grand, Bdbeatslayer (Luke Vrabel), who has earned nearly a million dollars online so far in his career, and Peter “#1PEN” Neff.  In the end, #1PEN and cwp394 met in heads-up play.

cwp394 defeated #1PEN and earned not only $73,385 for his efforts but also a cool WCOOP bracelet.

Here are the final standings:

1) cwp394 - $73,385
2) #1PEN - $54,192
3) Teacher G - $38,927
4) Bdbeatslayer - $26,192
5) edwinv070 - $21,676
6) skizer - $17,160
7) Perumov - $12,644
8) BadcardsAA - $8,128
9) lucky_aces08 - $5,012
