The 30th event at the 2008 PokerStars WCOOP was a PLO tourney with a $1,050 buy-in. In order to play Pot Limit Omaha effectively, you’ve got to understand that the math will not always serve you and bad beats will get you in a big way. The 742 players who took part in the tourney understood this or at least tried to as they fought over the $742,000 prize pool.
Greg “Fossilman” Raymer, who owns a WCOOP bracelet in PLO from 2007, entered the tournament. Unfortunately, he didn’t repeat the feat this year. He busted out far from the money. Four Team PokerStars pros won cash in the event. However, the top finisher was Isabelle “No Mercy” Mercier. The Canadian player ended her run at the title in 29th place, earning $2,597.
Tim “Tmay420” West, a fixture on the online circuit, made the final table in the tournament. His sixth place finish was good for more than $31,500. In the end, u_dirty_dog battled it out against salamandra24. The two had just agreed to a three-way deal with iggymcfly that went by the chips. salamandra24 had the least of the chips, but wound up after heads-up play was over with the bracelet and the title.
