776 players paid to play at Ultimate Bet on Sunday September 28, 2008 for the $200,000. This meant that the site that sponsors the Aruba Poker Classic, which is probably where everyone was en route to, had to pay out nearly $45,000 to meet the guarantee. The low attendance meant a big value for the players, which is probably why the final table was stacked with such talent.
sachdaddy, a previous runner-up in this event (on April 6, 2008), finished in ninth position, adding $3,500 to his online bankroll. ryanbluf, the seventh place finisher, was a recent winner at the Full Tilt Online Poker Series IX. bluf, whose real name is Ryan Karp, took down the eighth event in the series and won more than $121,000.
Then, there was Jon “PearlJammed” Turner. Turner is an online legend. Currently playing under the Full Tilt banner, PearlJammed has also made the transition to live action play and racked up winnings in the high six figures in both live and online events…perhaps more. In this tourney, Turner finished in fourth position and won $13,000.
negativeROI made it all the way to heads-up play again in this tournament. He accomplished this feat on August 31st. However, he wasn’t able to seal the deal and win break through to win the event. Jared “soxnation83” Mahoney, a previous winner of the Bodog $100k, defeated him for the title, taking the top spot and the $46,000.
These are the final results:
1) soxnation83 — $46,000
