At 31 years of age, Kelly Kim is the low man on the totem pole at the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event final table. With just 2,620,000 chips in his stack, the professional poker player from Whittier, California with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics knows the odds are against him. However, this former business analyst and 2003 winner of the Grand Slam of Poker understands that he needs “to get lucky” in order to pull off the improbable feat.
As Kim says, “I’m a tremendous favorite to finish 9th, but the fact that I'm still alive is enough for me. I'm not going to move in on the first hand, I'm a very good short stack player." With three previous World Series of Poker cashes and more than $350,000 in lifetime tournament earnings prior to the Main Event final table, Kim has the experience, skill and tenacity to turn the tide.
This Full Tilt Poker player will get his shot soon. Until then, he’s kept himself busy by playing at the World Series of Poker Europe and at the Bellagio. Kim has also watched ESPN World Series coverage and executed some serious statistical analysis of his opponents. Will his preparation pay off? The world will soon find out!
