Aylar gives new meaning to coming over the top...

When comparing poker rooms, it isn't hard to see which one's are leading the pack. Party Poker was king of the hill before the UIGEA, and Full Tilt leads the way with number of poker pro's in their stable, Hollywood Poker has the most movies stars, and so on. When it comes to which site leads the pack in Number of Norwegian Supermodels As Spokespersons, however, Purple Lounge Poker has them all beat.

Granted, they only have one, but it's Aylar, so there you go- and TourneyBlog just so happens to have an interview with the Model slash Spokesperson slash Popstar slash Poker Dealer.

Tourney Blog: Welcome Aylar, and thank you for taking the time out to speak with us. Congratulations on your role as the face of Purple Lounge Poker!

Aylar: Thank you for your interest in me. I feel honored to be the face of Purple Lounge and I take the job very seriously, even though it has been great fun as well so far! When I was first approached by Purple Lounge to represent them, I was very flattered.

TB: Logging on to Purple-Lounge.com, we are greeted with your smiling face, yet the welcome on the homepage comes from a "Tara"- are you and Tara the same person?

Aylar: Tara has been the cyber spokesperson of Purple Lounge since it's launch last year. Now Tara has taken the step out of the animated world and become actual flesh and blood! Through me, Tara now has a real voice and physical presence, that's the idea behind myself and Tara.

TB: Your first association with Purple Lounge Poker was as part of the FHM Norway/ Purple Lounge Poker tour, right? You and a group of Norwegian beauties were trained as poker dealers and then went on tour- was this your first exposure to poker?

Aylar: Yes, this was my first exposure to poker at a professional level. We had great fun and the tour was so successful that Purple Lounge will be taking the poker tour to Sweden in the summer of 2007. The girls and I had a blast learning to play and it was also amazing to be on tour with Simon Trumper who knows the game inside out and was always willing to give us hints and tips.

TB: Many professional poker players started out as poker dealers, such as Mike Matusow and Scott Fischman, and credit that experience with giving them insight into the game. Did you find your knowledge of poker expanding usefully as you dealt the cards?

Aylar: Absolutely. As a dealer it is much easier to see watch the moves and techniques of the players, as you can watch everything from an objective point of view. As I've only dealt at poker tournaments a handful of times (in comparison to professional dealers), I still have a lot to learn, which I'm looking very much forward to.

TB: From Tara's blog it sounded like the tour was equal parts working as a dealer and living the good life- what where some of the more memorable moments on the tour, both on the job and during your off hours?

Aylar: Well, if I told you all the fun things we got up to, I'm worried people could lose their jobs! Even so, there a couple of things that spring to mind – one was the guy that did an impromptu strip-tease to Tom Jones's 'Leave Your Hat on' and ended up spilling a pint all over our expensive poker tables and cloths. Another was seeing the effort some players had gone to at the tournament final to impress. One guy turned up dressed head to toe in a Purple pimps outfit!

TB: When Purple Lounge made the move to select a model for their spokesperson and "Face" you were selected from the applicants- with your work as a model, an actress, and a singer, were you eager to accept the role, or wary about taking on too much?

Aylar: I love working and when Purple Lounge selected me for the role, I knew I wanted this job right away; I love poker and find it a pleasure to play and deal so it's just a case of balancing my duties. My focus at present is my singing career as well as doing the best I can for Purple Lounge.

TB: As the face of Purple Lounge Poker, what are your duties?

Aylar: To promote Purple Lounge to the best of my abilities through all media channels, and to support them at poker tournaments, events, parties and so on as the face of the site.

TB: According to Wikipedia, one of the only sources of information about you available online in English, you chose your name when starting your career. Your last name, Lie, was chosen because it was the last name of your first love. True story? Romantic invention? Both?

Aylar: I wanted to change my name when I became famous as it was very difficult to pronounce and spell. My first name, Aylar is Persian and I chose it as I've always thought it was a beautiful name. Lie on the other hand, I chose because it was short and simple to pronounce. So, there is unfortunately no romantic story behind it.

TB: Tell us about Team Aylar- it sounds like the latest superhero group, ready to take on the bad guys!

Aylar: Team Aylar was the most famous team of glamour models in Norway. As I've now taken the step out of the glamour model industry myself, I've also shut down the team.

TB: Does being part of Team Aylar mean mastering poker? Should the poker world expect an assault by supermodel poker pros this time next year? I could just imagine Team Aylar sweeping the WSOP…

Aylar: Hehe, you'll just have to wait and see.

TB:  Your first foray into music was something of a runaway success, with "Boys Boys Boys" hitting Platinum many times over. Is there any danger of setting the bar too high? Any worries that follow up efforts won't do as well?

Aylar: Boys boys boys was meant as a PR stunt. It was a catchy cover hit but it won't have a place on my forthcoming CD. This will be a better quality of production and the songs will be a whole different genre to 'Boys, boys, boys'.

TB: With your music career building steam and your role with Purple Lounge Poker keeping you busy, what's next for you?

Aylar: My main focus at the present time is my poker and my music. But I like to challenge myself so you never know…

TB: Thank you, Aylar, for taking the time out to speak with us, and best of luck in all your endeavors!
