Bad Beat on Cancer at the WSOP

TourneyBlog Staff - 10 Jun 2009

Poker pros old and new are putting their money where their mouth is and pledging a percentage of their WSOP winnings to fund a cancer cure.

Phil Gordon has put a lot of work into his poker game, and a lot more into raising money for cancer. His “Put a Bad Beat on Cancer” charity work gets the word out and the coin rolling as he encourages all players at the World Series of Poker to pledge some money to a great cause.

Dennis Philips, of last year’s WSOP final table fame, is a prime example of the charitable attitude prevalent among poker players. After the WSOP is over and done he will be hosting an All Star Celebrity Bash charity event; during the WSOP he’s already played in Mike Sexton’s "Shuffle Up For Poker Gives" charity tournament, as well as sponsored a charity dinner where he put money forward to help the Special Olympics, Paralyzed Veterans and the Intrepid Heroes Fund.

And, of course, he’ll be donating a percentage of his winnings to the Prevent Cancer Foundation during the WSOP.

You can do the same – and win yourself a seat into the WSOP – play these WSOP satellites at PokerStars.
