The poker world has been all a-twitter of a high stakes poker game between Patrik Antonius and Doyle Brunson. The hunky Antonius, who hails from Iceland, challenged the ten-time WSOP bracelet holder to a game of poker. Brunson said he’d be happy to play the former tennis pro. The duo, who have forged an unlikely friendship of sorts, are set to meet on the felt this summer. $1,000,000 is reportedly up for grabs.
However, word has hit the blogosphere – written by Brunson at his own DoylesRoom.com blog - that the two men will be meeting on a different kind of green before their poker game. Brunson, who seems irritated at the attention this story is getting, wrote, “I challenge him [Antonius] to play for $100,000 a hole at Bali Hai Golf Club, any time from now until the end of August. Surely a twenty-seven-year-old ex-professional tennis player from Finland can beat a seventy-four-year-old guy with an artificial shoulder and who has to use a crutch to walk. What do you say, Patrik?”
Brunson still maintains that he can beat Antonius in poker as well, and we quote: “If anyone under thirty years of age can let me pick any game at any time I want, I strongly believe I can beat them. If I don’t, the Brunson Family has three hundred acres on the top of a mountain at Big Arm, Montana. I’ll retire and move up on that mountain and enjoy the wildlife and the sunsets for the rest of my life.”
Seems that this match could have some seriously high-stakes indeed!
Antonius is not afraid to splash around in a big pot. Watch this million dollar hand from GSN’s “High Stakes Poker”:
