Germany has plenty of famous exports, from Volkswagen to sauerkraut to Beck’s beer -- and now added to the list is a blonde ex-horse trainer dominating the poker tables, Katja Thater.
By now you’ve likely heard of this German bombshell, and if you’ve seen her gallery at PokerStars you know she could be a model as easily as a poker pro. Thater is a no-nonsense poker maven who picked up the game watching her husband play Stud in local casinos, and applied the same sharp mind used to train horses to train the players at table to give her their chips.
But what has she been up to lately?
Katja continues to rule the tables in cash games -- high stakes cash games. She decided to make an effort at tourney games and in 2006, after a fifth place finish at the European Poker Tour Warsaw event, had a great showing with two cashes in the World Series of Poker. In 2007 she made the final table in the Ladies event and then took the buzz from a deep finish (fifth place) right into the next event -- Razz -- and won her first WSOP bracelet.
She still trains horses when she had the time, but time is precious with everything she is doing. In addition to playing poker she is a poker commentator as well on German TV, and contributes her knowledge to the online poker school that is part of PokerStars, Intellipoker.
She’s also co-author of “Poker Matrix”, a book on poker strategy that she wrote with othe German poker stars.
She also defends her poker record regularly online, where anyone can join her table and take on this tough lady; if they can afford the stakes.
Sign up with PokerStars now and you can play her, too. Just look for her screen name, KatjaThater.
