Hansen Says He’s No Online Fish

Deanna Goodson - 25 Feb 2009

One of the great debates among high stakes railbirds is whether Gus “The Great Dane” Hansen is a fish or a shark. (Note – we won’t tell you what side we fall in on the debate to maintain our journalistic integrity and because we love Gus so much!)

According to several high stakes databases, Hansen is a losing online player. Sure, this isn’t a major problem for a man who’s got three World Poker Tour titles and won an Aussie Millions Main Event. However, it’s a hit to his street cred if you know what we’re saying.

Hansen has a different story to tell. He clearly states that “I have played for two and a half years and I am winning.” He also admits to having his “own numbers, which are more precise and accurate than the High Stakes DB.”

Of course, Hansen doesn’t say he’s the greatest online player. He cites Phil Ivey as being the “overall best in the world” and puts Patrik Antonius as “number two.”

Despite his winning ways, Hansen is going to take a pass on the durrrr Challenge at this juncture. Why? As he says, “Right now I don't feel like I have enough online experience and I'm not fast enough to play a guy of durrrr's caliber."

Awww … he’s handsome and gracious.
