Jennifer Harman loves animals. The diminutive poker diva has held several successful fundraisers for the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA), raising tens of thousands of dollars for the charity. Earlier this week, the lovely lady, who is married to fellow pro Marco Traniello and mother to twins, helped the NSPCA open a new wing in their no-kill sanctuary. She’s also promoting her Second Annual Jennifer Harman Charity Poker Tournament on April 18th.
Last year’s event, which was won by Kirk Morrison, helped to save 1,000 animals according to NSPCA Executive Director Doug Duke. Duke referred to Harman as an “animal hero.”
Joining Harman at the event were fellow pros David Williams, Chip & Karina Jett, Doyle Brunson and Hoyt Corkins. Harman told the crowd that she does what she does because she feels “a responsibility to these unconditional pets. They are wonderful things!”
This year’s tournament will be held at The Venetian. Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan, Howard Lederer and Phil Ivey are among the players who’ve committed to attend the event. The tourney is open to the public and has a suggested donation of $300 + 30 as a buy-in with optional re-buys of $200 as well as an add-on after the first hour.
Even if you can’t play, you can still contribute to the NSPCA at http://www.nevadaspca.org/donate.htm or call 702-873-7722.
