Why did Bodog split with Josh Arieh? Earlier this week, the online poker room announced that it had signed Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo to its roster of pros…which didn’t include the Atlanta-based multiple WSOP bracelet holder. Arieh, who has earned nearly $5,000,000 in live tournaments in his career in addition to his solid online winnings, continues to be a very successful player. In ’08 so far, he’s won a PLO tournament at the Wynn Classic and finished 17th at the WSOPC Tunica.
When compared to the success of his fellow Bodog pros, this caused a few bloggers to speculate that perhaps Arieh, a happily married father, doesn’t represent the Bodog “lifestyle” the same way as the single and swinging Evelyn Ng, David Williams, Jean-Robert Bellande ZeeJustin do.
Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, the company that brands and licenses Bodog in North American, stated that “Bodog and Josh have mutually decided to part ways at the end of April. Josh had a great run as a member of Team Bodog over the past four years that included finishing third at the 2004 WSOP Main Event, winning his second WSOP bracelet in 2005 and a number of final-table appearances at high profile tournaments. We sincerely enjoyed our association with Josh and appreciate all that he brought to Team Bodog. We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors, both at and away from the poker table.”
Josh, himself, told PokerNews that “It was a great three-year run with Bodog” and has “nothing but kind words to say about them.” He is ready “to move on to bigger and better things.”
Arieh’s new website, http://www.josharieh.com, will be up and running in time for the WSOP. He’ll feature a daily blog on the site. The poker superstar is also turning his attention to his golf game and will be playing in the World Series of Golf amateur event.
