Hellmuth to Host Hold’em for Heroes

Deanna Goodson - 17 Nov 2008

The Poker Brat is not known for his charitable nature especially to those who sit next to him on the felt. However, the 11 time World Series of Poker bracelet winner often lends his name to charitable endeavors. Next up for Phil Hellmuth is a gig as the co-host for the Heroes Charity Poker Tournament, which runs from November 21 – 22 at the Fort McDowell Casino in Ft. McDowell, Arizona.

Kathy Hanrahan, the CEO of the TASER Foundation, which is putting on the event, said of Hellmuth, he is a “huge draw, and anyone who watches the World Series of Poker knows that he brings his A-game to whatever he does. His continued commitment to the TASER Foundation and the families of fallen officers in the United States and Canada comes directly from his heart."

Joining Hellmuth as host of the event is country singer Mark Willis. A multi-platinum selling artist, Willis is also a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in Georgia and, according to Hanrahan, a “strong supporter and true friend of the TASER Foundation for many years and we are excited to have him as a host for this main fundraising event for the Foundation.”

A slew of celebrities and poker players are expected to attend the tournament such as Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari, Phil Laak, Layne Flack, former Dallas Cowboy Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Montel Williams, Marvin “Young MC” Young and many others. The tourney will feature two $100 buy-in events as well as a $1,000 high roller attraction.

There will be cash prizes and a seat to the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event up for grabs. Fifty percent of all proceeds are expected to go to the TASER foundation, which was established in 2004 and honors the service and sacrifice of local, state/provincial and federal law enforcement officers in the US and Canada who are lost in the line of duty. It provides financial support to their families.
