Chris Ferguson might be the ultimate example of a bluff in the world of poker. The man given the nickname "Jesus" due to his long locks and quiet demeanor wears all black, right down to a fancy cowboy had and dark glasses, not the image of a Jesus-figure to many; misdirection number one. A man who's image graces many poker related commercials and who is seen at many a professional tournament's final table, yet one who does not consider poker his occupation or his major source of income; misdirection number two. A man who's gaunt frame and stoic poker face hide the mind of a mathematician with a photographic memory and the soul of a dancer; misdirection number three. Perhaps the one thing poker fans and his opponents around the table can accurately gauge is his skill at the game; there is no miss understanding that.

The 2000 World Series of Poker World Champion, the most cashes in a single year in the 2004 WSOP season with more than $2,800,000 all together, and five WSOP bracelets all go a long way towards proving that Ferguson is no light weight at poker.

Born in 1963, Chris played games a lot as a child. This may not sound surprising, as most poker pros tell of learning cards at the kitchen table in their youth, but how many of them had a professor of Game Theory for a father and a Mathematician for a mother?

Chris is unique in this fashion, as well as in other ways.  For someone considered a professional poker player by just about everyone but himself, Chris plays a relatively small amount of poker. He did make a go of playing the game for a living right out of college, playing $1-$2 games, and discovered he could do it if he played very tight, and could figure out how to live on about $4 an hour. With his focus on game theory and artificial intelligence taking up most of his work-a-day life, Chris decided to focus on tournament play, deciding he could learn to be the best by playing the best.

There are other things that take Ferguson's mind away from poker outside his work as a research assistant and his pursuit of a PHD; namely, swing dancing. As a fan of all forms of ballroom dance, Ferguson is especially fond of the swing, which he considers an ever-evolving form of dance and a fantastic way to meet interesting people as well has have a lot of fun.  A Californian born and bred, he now lives in Pacific Palisades when he is not traveling to attend poker events.

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, a man equally at home walking the halls of academia  (where you will never see him wearing his trademark cowboy hat), improvising dance moves at a California swing club, and stoically facing off against other legends of poker for the entertainment of millions of poker fans the world over.
