Scott Goeke and Jeremy Allen have build a group of pals online. They play poker together and chat and have a great time. The duo, who plays in league once a week, decided that they wanted something more..so that's how Cowboy's Poker League was born. Recently, the duo sat down with me, Deanna Goodson, and chatted a bit about the league and, of course, poker.
Are you ready to take a gander at the Q&A? Great!
TB: Can you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?
Scott: I am married to my beautiful wife with 3 children. I enjoy playing poker when I'm not busy working at the best job in the world.
Jeremy: I have been in Radiology for the last 2 years. Before that I owned a small cigar shop that was gifted to me and my Father. I am a sports nut and an action junkie. If it is sports, I watch it and more than likely bet on it. ESPN is on in my house 24/7.
TB: How long have you been playing poker? What brands of poker do you play?
Scott: I've been playing poker for 5 plus years. I enjoy NL Hold'em, but also play Stud, Stud H/L, Omaha, and Omaha H/L. I'm always trying different types of poker and the list of favorites might grow.
Jeremy: I have been playing Poker for around 17 years, since college, but competitively I would say for 9. We had a pretty big cash game in the back room of the cigar shop for years before I was even part of it. Watching them play for what I was making in a week (and that was just for one hand!) piqued my interest and reminded me that I use to win beer money at school playing the game. So, I started playing with them and was hooked again.
TB: What are your poker aspirations? Do you wanna win a WSOP bracelet or just make a living at it?
Scott: I'd love to win a WSOP bracelet, but I enjoy playing poker for the competition it brings. As I have gotten older, I've lost my ability to play competitive sports, so poker takes it's place.
Jeremy: Who doesn't want a bracelet? Of course that is a goal, but I just love the game. I would like to get good enough at all the variations of the game to be competitive at them all. I tried once to support myself by playing the game and got burned out a lot faster than I thought I would. Now I play for the enjoyment and competitiveness of the game.
TB: What is Cowboy’s Poker League?
Scott: Cowboy's Poker League is a chance for folks to play a friendly tournament. It's also an opportunity to introduce players to new variations of poker.
Jeremy: Just a nice game with friends that will consist of different variations of Poker instead of just Hold Em.
TB: What prompted you to set the league up? What do you hope will happen as a result of it?
Scott: We could only find a game 1 day a week. We decided to see if we could get a game going every day. I would love to see us hosting a game every day of the week.
Jeremy: We realized that we were pretty much playing with the same group of people every night but we only had one Tournament a week and it was always NLHE. So we decided to start another league so we could play with these sames friends and also play a different variation each week, hopefully it can become a different game daily to test all of our skills.
TB: When are the games and where?
Scott: Currently there is a league on Full Tilt Poker. It kicks off on February 3rd at 9 pm EST. The schedule can be found at cowboyspokerleague.wordpress.com.
Jeremy: I'd like to add when at cowboyspokerleague.wordpress.com, click on the Full Tilt League tab.
TB: How can someone sign-up?

Jeremy: or you visit go right here... cowboyspokerleague.wordpress.com/poker-league-players/ and we will get you added.

TB: Anything you’d like to add based on those short answers?
Jeremy: I would just like to tell everyone to give our new league a try. You might find out that you like playing different games than Hold Em every time you play.
TB: Are there any strategy tips you’d like to share with our readers?
Scott: I have some tips posted on the website. Visit cowboyspokerleague.wordpress.com and click on the tips tab.
TB: Perhaps there’s something we missed that you’d like to discuss?
Jeremy: Just to give the new league a shot and I guarantee you will have a good time. Lots of solid play and great chat to be had. I would also like to tell people to give the other games a try. I gave Badugi a shot after you gave me a few pointers and taught me how to play properly. I absolutely love that game now, so thank you, Deanna.
TB: Thanks, Jeremy. I don't know what I love more about Badugi – playing it or teaching it to others. You were a great student. I wish both of you success with Cowboys Poker League and I can't wait to beat you, I mean meet you, on the virtual felt.
