Jennifer Tilly knows a thing or two about a thing or two, including poker, travel, and making movies. When she flew south of the equator to play in the 2008 Aussie Millions in Melbourne (that’s Australia, if the “Aussie” part didn’t clue you in) it seemed like she had a healthy perspective about the event. Surely determined to play her best, she was also up for doing a little touring, which is in direct contrast to how other poker players take these exotic trips, which they view as work.
Tilly has always been an interesting character. The first – and only – woman to win both the World Poker Tour ladies event and the World Series of Poker ladies event (and in one year, to boot!) would have been enough to put her name on the map, but she also just happened to be an Academy Award nominee. Her romance with Phil “Unabomber” Laak has also been something of a fun thing to watch at various events. (Not like we are staring or anything.)
As an actress one would suppose she is used to baring her soul in front of the cameras, but as a pro poker player it might be a bit much to do the same in poker magazine… or not. Tilly talks about her insecurities at a big poker event, such as one played at Club Med, when some poker pros tease here and she was concerned it was more mocking that endearing. But she keeps her chin up, plays her best, and continues to strive to improve her game. We find that pretty darn endearing, actually.
