Profiling Dennis Phillips

Deanna Goodson - 30 Oct 2008

Dennis Phillips is a 53 year old account manager who makes his home in St. Louis, MO. He works for Broadway Trucks, a commercial trucking company. Currently the chip leader of the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event, Phillips is no newcomer to the game. He’s been playing in local games for years and cashed at two World Series of Poker Circuit events in 2007.

A huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinal, the charitable Phillips has auctioned off a piece of himself to help Multiple Sclerosis, vowed to give a portion of his winnings prevent cancer and asked Poker Stars, when they signed him on to their roster of pros, to match the 1% donation he made to the Bad Beat for Cancer charity. Considering he’s an odds-on favorite to take down the title and more than $9,000,000, Phillips could raise nearly a million dollars alone for his favorite charities this year.

A grounded individual, Phillips, who is the oldest man at this year’s final table, vows that no matter what happens this November it won’t ‘change his life too much.’ He’ll have some fun with the cash, but “he’ll keep his feet on the ground.” The college graduate with the polite table manners would be a welcome addition to the tournament circuit should he decide to change careers at this stage of the game.
