Profiling Craig Marquis

Deanna Goodson - 8 Nov 2008

At 23 years old, this native of Arlington, TX is just one of two players – Denmark’s Peter Eastgate is the other – at the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event final table who could become the youngest man to ever win the title. Phil Hellmuth, the Madison Kid, currently holds that distinction. He was 24 years young when he earned his first WSOP bracelet in 1989.

Like many other young players today, Marquis picked up the game online. He played with some pals including Full Tilt poker pro David Benefield. Obviously, Marquis is a quick study. The college student has only been playing the game for a year and a half or so but has already cashed in three WSOP tournaments. Before the 2008 Main Event, Marquis’ live tournament earnings totaled just $35,759.

Currently playing under Full Tilt Poker’s banner, Marquis would love to buy his family a pool should he prevail at the final table and become a multimillionaire. Currently in eighth place, however, Craig is thrilled to just be sitting at the table. An easygoing guy, he spent much of his off-time, relaxing and enjoying himself. He took a trip to Europe and feels confident that he’ll “be ready to play” in November.
