Profiling Ivan Demidov

Deanna Goodson - 7 Nov 2008

Ivan Demidov is 27 years old. He hails from Moscow, Russia. In his first trip to the World Series of Poker this summer, he played in nearly every event. However, he had only finished 11th in a $1,000 NLHE tournament prior to the Main Event, earning $39,854. Inspired by the success of fellow Russian superstar, Alex Kravchenko Demidov made his way to Las Vegas with a friend’s help.

In September, Ivan, who is also an avid skier, made headlines for finishing third at the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. The young Russian semi-professional player banked a healthy sum of $608,995 for his efforts in London. The graduate of Moscow State University – Ivan has a degree in Math – is second in chips behind leader Dennis Phillips.

A former fifth place finisher in the 2006 PLO event at the Russian Poker Championships, Demidov eliminated Hoyt Corkins at this year’s WSOP Main Event. An avid scuba diver, the former semi-pro StarCraft player is in good position to best Kravchenko’s fourth place finish at the Main Event from last year.
