Fifty lucky freerollers are waiting with bated breath on tonight’s live Poker Million broadcast in the UK on SKY Sports 3 at 7 p.m. — last night they secured a 5 percent share in Marty Smyth’s winnings from the tournament which could top $50,000 if he emerges victorious.
Boylepoker.com ran a Marty Smyth $50,000 Freeroll which saw 305 players take part and 50 make the money. They will share between 0.2 percent and 20 percent of the 5 percent of the winnings Smyth is donating to the them. Smyth will win between $75,000 (sixth place) and $1 million (first place).
This is the third year in a row Smyth, who this summer lifted the pot-limit Omaha world championship event at the World Series of Poker for which he collected $859,549, has made the final six of the Poker Million. In 2006 he came sixth in the event for $100,000 and last year came second for $500,000.
“I’m hoping to go one better this year,” said the Malone Road man. “It’s been an incredible year for me and winning this would be the icing on the cake. It’ll be a tough game though and while I’m friends with the other Irish players they won’t do me any favours.”
He will be joined in the final six by Liam Flood and Eoghan O’Dea from Dublin, Ciaran O’Leary from Cork, Englishman Kevin Allen and Scandinavian Svein Petter Neilsen.
Smyth also won the World Open earlier this year for a $250,000 payday. He has total career earnings of poker tournament of $2,663,939.
The event is broadcast live on SKY Sports 3 on Friday December 12 at 7 p.m.
