A story of a down on his luck player from Ladbrokes Poker and his windfall at this year’s World Series of Poker
Richard Sinclair of West Lothian, is celebrating a $25,000 windfall, just ten days after being made redundant from his job of nineteen years.
Richard, 34, was one of twenty (a fifth of the workforce) to be given their cards from Livingston based firm Wynan Gordon, just two days before he was due to set off on a dream trip to Vegas; a prize he won whilst playing poker online at Ladbrokespoker.com earlier this year.
Richard instantly became a member of Team Ladbrokes, who stumped up the $10,000 fee for him to enter the Main Event of The World Series of Poker (Think World Cup) the biggest and richest poker tournament in the world, where first prize is a cool $8.5m. The team of fifteen players from across Europe, was captained by Steve Davis - six time world snooker champion and poker veteran.
Over 6,000 players entered the WSOP tournament, although Richard amazingly managed to make it through the ranks finishing in 465th place (after five days of poker play) for his cash prize - Only two other members of the team placed and won money.
Sinclair said: "The win couldn't have come at a better time, what with the credit crunch and all, job prospects are pretty bleak at the moment. I'm going to use half of my winnings as a bankroll and give becoming a professional poker player a shot!!"
He continued: "The next event, I plan to play in, will be the Ladbrokes Irish Poker festival in Killarney in October."Steve Davis, Team Ladbrokes captain commented: "This is a tournament, where the best poker players come together to compete for the ultimate poker prize - a lot of these guys do this for a living! It's a real endurance test! The fact that Richard made it through this tough field, certainly shows that he has promise."
Kate McLennan, Head of Ladbrokes Poker said: "We're thrilled that Richard made it through a field of thousands - this is what the Vegas Dream is all about and we are glad that we are a part of it! We look forward to seeing him later this year in Killarney."
