“Everyone at this table besides me has had at least seven years of college.” That was the phrase that stuck with me watching the latest Poker After Dark show – dubbed “Brilliant Minds.”
The show, as you surely know by now, is a hit on NBC, the US network that airs the program. With Poker After Dark you get six pros putting up $20k of their own money for a $120k prize pool, and only the winner gets paid – all of it. Each week they have a new theme, which helps the show a great deal, and this week it is a passel of poker players who use math based strategies and have massive egos. Er… massive IQs.
Actually most of the players at the table seem pretty humble. You can’t get more humble than Jesus – that would be Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, the best known of the crew and a Full Tilt Poker pro. Joining him are David Sklansky, Andy Bloch, Bill Chen, Jimmy Warren and Brandon Adams.
It was Sklansky that made the comment about college. He then followed up with pointing out that he only had one year, and as they were all hugely successful poker pros, what does that say about the additional six years everyone else spent in school – a waste of time?
It is banter like that which adds to the core of the show and makes it enjoyable to watch – the core being super poker, played straight, with very few cut-aways or skipping of hands.
Check it out!
And check out how well you can play against Chris Ferguson at Full Tilt Poker.
