Who Will Win the 2008 WSOP Main Event…Redux?

Serena DaSilva - 9 Jul 2008

Okay, we get it. Our predictions sucked. We thought Justin Bonomo, Phil Ivey, John Phan, Daniel Negreanu and Scotty Nguyen were going to be the ones to take down the Main Event in ’08. Before the Event actually got underway – these didn’t seem like bad ideas, did they? Each of our reasons seemed logical enough. Each of these players is talented enough. Nguyen has even done it before…in 1998. Of course, we don’t think that people like Brian Schaedlich or Steve Austin (who’ve held chip leads at the end of Days of this Main Event so far) will prevail in the end, either…but what the heck do we know?

We’re not sure if you would trust us to come up with more predictions because well we were soooooooo off-base the first time so we asked our resident psychic Panndyra, she’s the one who predicted some stuff before the WSOP began and she was vague enough to be pretty close to on the money for most of this stuff so far. For example, women have had one heck of a World Series, making tons of final tables. Vanessa Selbst won a bracelet in an open event and…Panndyra’s still pretty sure one will emerge to make the final table in the Main Event.

As for the Main Event, 2008 has been the year of the pro. There are a slew of poker pros out there. Some are more well-known than others. There are the Doyle Brunsons and the Gus Hansens and then there are the Hasan Habibs and John Duthies. All of these peeps remain in the game. Panndyra thinks that one of the lesser-known pros will take the title, not the big guns.

However, she refuses to name names because well…that’s just not what a real psychic does. For the winner of the 2008 WSOP Main Event, you’ll just have to wait ‘til November like the rest of us.
