Is Doyle Going to Hire Michael Phelps?

Deanna Goodson - 11 Sep 2008

Doyle Brunson sure knows how to make headlines. The Godfather of Poker wrote a few words in his blog that he, Jennifer Harman, her hubby Marco, Hoyt Corkins and Todd Brunson had ‘dinner’ with Michael Phelps and a few of his friends. The 23 year old was in Las Vegas, staying at the Palms Hotel & Casino. Doyle took the kids some copies of Super/System 1 & 2 and the group spent time answering some poker questions.

When asked, Phelps said “all he wanted to do in life was to eat, swim and play poker.” Doyle mentions that he asked Michael’s agent if he’d try to make it to the opening of The Real Deal in October at The Venetian. The poker-themed stage show will begin its run in the middle of October, pitting two of the world’s best players against audience members on stage. Hosted by comedian Paul Rodriguez, celebs and poker pros are expected to be there in droves at the opening of this show.

However, Doyle doesn’t mention whether he asked Phelps to become part of Doyle’s room or not. We do think it’d be pretty sweet if the ‘golden guy’ of the 2008 Beijing Games was a bounty at one of Doyle’s weekly tournaments.

In other Doyle news, the self-proclaimed ‘Godfather of Poker’ says he is going to attend the WSOPE. He has to – he is pretty sure he’s got a heads-up match planned with last year’s Main Event winner, Annette Obrestad. As he writes, “I know that she is a good player, but it will be embarrassing to lose to an 18 year old girl. But if I do, I won’t have any excuse…”

No comment…check out this video. It’s Doyle Brunson playing – the hand named after him at the 2003 WSOP:
