There is poker, and then there is poker. The basic rules are the same, but there are some fundamental difference between cash poker and tournament poker games, and mixing them is a mistake.
Most poker players quickly understand the major differences between cash and tournament poker games; in a cash game you make decisions based mostly on profitability and probability, and in a tournament game you sometimes make decisions that would not be profitable in the long run, but in the short run could get you further in the game.
There is nothing wrong with a poker player seeking excellence (or just fun!) in both cash games and tournament games; but don’t try playing them both at the same time.
Multitabling is a common practice among experienced poker players, who pull up more than one game and play them simultaneously. This requires an ability to play ABC poker, relying on consistent good decisions to win out over the long run; it also requires the player to operate a little bit on auto pilot.
Mixing cash and tourney games is a mistake for most players because it interferes with the auto- pilot method; a player would have to slow down each time he or she switched game types and analyze their decision on whether or not the game in question was cash or tourney.
Multitabling can be a great way to profit from playing online poker, and it can be done with both cash and tourney games. Just stick to one or the other at a time
