Using Lobby Stats to Chooose Your Cash Game

Although Tourneyblog focuses on the tournament player, from time to time we’ve got to acknowledge ring game profitability. Ring games can and should be a part of your poker playing diet. They maximize your earning potential and build your bankroll up.

The most important thing you can do when playing a cash game online occurs before you sit down. You have to choose the best table for your playing style, bankroll and profit margin.

There are three main factors that will help you in your decision-making process.

  1. Hands per hour – The number of hands dealt in an hour differs among tables. The more hands that are dealt per hour, the higher the speed of decision-making and play. If you’re a deliberate type, you may wanna steer clear of this high-action and possibly high talent table.
  2. Percentage of players seeing the flop – The higher the percentage, the more players see the flop. Anything over 40% is loose, under 20% is tight. For example, if you see a view-flop percentage of 70% at a table, you’re going to want to play with these fast and furious types – you’ll probably wind up being the shark in a sea of fish.
  3. Average pot size – This stat tells you how much money players are willing to dish out per hand. The lower the pot size, the tighter the table and vice versa. Of course, bigger pots could also mean less skilled players. How you interpret the figure is up to you. Just know that 10 x the lower limit is considered tight while 10 x the upper limit is generally considered large.
