What Do I Do When I Flop a Monster?

Deanna Goodson - 14 Mar 2008

You’re sitting down at the table, minding your own business. The card gods haven’t been particularly kind or unkind to you. You’re holding your own and playing okay poker. Suddenly, you look down and see that you’ve flopped an amazing hand. You’re king queen in the hole has netted you a full house or better.
What the heck do you do now?

First off, you’ve got to relax. Don’t let ‘em see you sweat (or react). Keep your movements normal. Act natural.

Many people would tell you to go on and check. That way you can trap your opponent to net a big payday at the end of the hand. We say – bet out. Why? You’ve got to strike while the iron is hot. We’re not saying you’ve got to bet a lot. ¼ to ½ of the pot, depending upon how many players are in the action sounds good.

What happens next is up to your opponent.
