Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge Heats Up in Oklahoma

123 poker players plunked down their cash in the $120 buy-in Stud tournament at the SNPC IV at the Cherokee Casino on November 7. The total prize pool was $11,070 with the top two finishers agreeing to a chop. Both Brandon Breeding and Joseph Karriman earned $3,237 for their efforts.

On Thursday, November 8 at 11am, 107 entrants put up their $230 to play in the Pot Limit Hold’em tournament. PLH is a less aggressive game than No-Limit Hold’em and less mathematical than the limit variant. In this brand, you can bet up to the pot at any time in the hand but no more than that. PLH is a great middle of the road game for those who don’t love the all or nothing NLHE games and are easily bored by the by the book play required to master limit.

In this tournament, nine places paid out. The top prize went to Adam Murphy.

Mary Watt took the top spot at last Thursday’s No Limit Hold’em tournament. The buy in was reasonable at $120. The event drew in 350 entrants, one of the highest numbers the series has put in thus far. The total prize pool was $31,500. Mary, a resident of Tulsa, received the lion’s share of that as well as the respect of her table mates.

Noah Nodine, of Broken Arrow, OK, sailed through 235 players in the 11 am, $300+$30 No-Limit Hold’em event on Friday, November 9, during the “Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV”, at the Cherokee Casino. He won $20,160, a cruise for two with Card Player Cruises, and trophy.

Noah’s chip ship came in when he doubled up through player Eric Crain late in the game. “I had quite a comeback,” explained Noah. “The table was very aggressive. I just tried to pick my spots.”

Friday, November 9th things got jumping at the SNPC IV. 240 people put up their $230 to play in Apollo’s Knockout, a special bounty tournament. The name of the game was NLHE. 28 places shared in the $45,600 prize pool. First place and nearly $15k went to Jason Romberger

Amateur player Bob Menn, of Piedmont, OK, was the champion in the $300+30 No H.O.R.S.E. event Sunday, November 11, during the “Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV” at the Cherokee Casino. Bob cashed $14,329 for 1st Place in the 152-player field. 

“I came down for the weekend and just decided to enroll,” explains Bob. “I got really lucky. I’m new to some of the games and made mistakes that paid off.” Bob’s beginners luck had him smiling from ear to ear.
