The Ladies Get Rough on the World Poker Tour

Henrik Kjellberg - 8 Oct 2008

The Ladies Night Event is one of the most heavily-anticipated tournaments on the World Poker Tour calendar. An invitational, the Ladies Night competition features five of the best known female poker players in the world and one qualifier. In 2006, three of these fearsome femmes tussled in a killer pot. Anahit Galajian, who eventually took third in this event, had good old pocket rockets in this hand. Ana, as she’s known to her friends, decided to play them strong.

Read on for the hand history:

Game Type: No Limit Texas Hold'em
Tournament: 2006 World Poker Tour Ladies Night
Players in Hand: Anahit Galajian, Erica Schoenberg and JJ Liu

Starting Hands:

Anahit Galajian – A, A
Erica Schoenberg - 3, 3
JJ Liu – A, J

PreFlop:

Anahit Galajian, the Iranian born poker pro who finished 8th in a limit event at the 1998 LA Poker Classic, makes a nice three times the blind raise to $18k. Erica Schoenberg, the model and former blackjack player who is currently engaged to fellow pro David Benyamine, hopes for a three on the flop and calls. JJ Liu, who came in second to Ted Forrest while heavily pregnant at the 2007 Bay 101 Main Event, realizes that the pot size is too good. She calls as well.

The Flop – [4, 2, 4]

JJ Liu checks. Anahit Galajian shoots a $25k bet into the pot, looking to protect her rockets. Erica Schoenberg makes the call. JJ is out, mucking her hand.

The Turn - [4, 2, 4] [8]

Anahit Galajian opens with a $60k bet. Erica Schoenberg thought it over for a bit. She decided not to chase the elusive three. The lovely blonde folded her hand, shipping the pot over to Anahit.
