Van Marcus Wins APPT Manila

285 entrants from 31 countries made the trek to the Hyatt Hotel and Casino in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Nine men made it to the final table and only one would outlast the rest to become champion. Three of these were Filipino natives. (Note – The Philippines was well-represented in the tournament. Of the 32 players who made bank in the event, five came from Three more hailed from Korea. One came from Hong Kong, another from New Zealand and the final man was an Australian by the name of Van Marcus.

Van Marcus, a 25 year old Poker-Stars sponsored player who comes from Melbourne, has cashed three times on the Asian Pacific Poker Tour (APPT). A professional poker player, Marcus took fifth in this tournament last year and finished ninth in the 2008 APPT Macau High Roller Event so he wasn’t lacking the ability to win. It was the luck he needed on his side.

And luck Van Marcus found. Not only did he river quads on Day Two, but Van Marcus defeated Korean player Tae Jun Noh heads-up by filling-in an open-ended straight draw on the turn.

Van Marcus described the experience as “one of the better moments of my career and maybe even of my life.” He also said he’ll be at the Sydney Grand Final when it kicks off on December 2, 2008 and hopes to “replicate this week’s performance in front of a home crowd.”
