Texas Dolly KOs Annette_15 2-0 at The Empire

Deanna Goodson - 29 Sep 2008

Doyle Brunson has defeated Annette Obrestad, the reigning WSOPE Main Event champion, in a heads-up match-up that took place in Leicester Square in London on September 26, 2008. Texas Dolly, as the 10-time WSOP bracelet holder is commonly called, won the first match after about half an hour of play.

On the final hand of that match, both players got all their money in on the flop. Brunson had a pair and Obrestad, who first shot to fame as an internet player, had a straight draw. The turn completed the 19 year old prodigy’s queen-high straight (ironically enough). Then, to put salt in the wound, the river, gave Brunson, who has a World Poker Tour championship named after him, the win … with a King-high straight.

In the second match, Annette got a chip lead, but lost it on two key hands. Then, a jack-high flop brought both of the players’ money into the middle. Doyle had Annette covered, but Annette had Brunson out-kicked with a King. Brunson had a three in his pocket. Unfortunately, the turn brought another three and the match was over. Brunson was the victor. Annette would have to settle the score another time.

Doyle plays online at Doyles Room. Each Sunday his online poker room hosts a $175,000 Guaranteed Tournament. Find out how you can qualify for this event by clicking here!
