Sorensen Wins MCOP 2008

Jan Sorensen defeated 334 other players at the €6,000 Lido Poker NLHE main event which took place on the 14-15 November 2008 at the Holland Casino in Amsterdam. The man from Odense, Denmark, the same city which recently crowned WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate hails from, took down the highly coveted 2008 Master Classics of Poker (MCOP) Championship. Previous winners at the MCOP include German player Alex Jalali and Norwegian phenom Trond Eidsvig.

En route to the title, Sorensen, a former footballer who is considered a seven-card stud specialist, fought his way through a tough field which included British poker icon Surinder Sunar, Belgium World Series of Poker bracelet winner Davidi Kitai, recent EPT London champion Michael Martin and Canadian online prodigy Sorel Mizzi among others.

Sorensen, who has two WSOP bracelets (one in Pot Limit Omaha and another in Seven Card Stud), earned €623,100 for the win.
