Brady Breaks Through Big Time at UB Aruba Classic 2008

Deanna Goodson - 6 Oct 2008

Matt Brady has made a name for himself on the tournament circuit since turning pro a few years ago. The Pennsylvania native, who had amassed more than ¾ of a million dollars in earnings prior to entering the UltimateBet Aruba Poker Classic 2008, had gained the respect of many of his colleagues although he had yet to win a major title. The up and comer came into the final table of the tournament second in chips behind Johan “The Swedish Eagle” Storakers, a full-fledged member of TeamUB and the early favorite.

Storakers took a couple of big hits to his stack early and found himself low on chips when the rain came down and the final six players were moved into the casino to finish up the match. Storakers navigated the choppy waters, so to speak, and survived several double ups through his once mighty stack to face Matt Brady heads-up for the title. Brady began the heads-up match-up with an obvious advantage. The chrome-domed 27 year old pro held 6.1 million chips to the Swede’s 1.6 million.

Storakers, who finished third in the 2005 APC, took down $486,000 for his runner-up status. Brady earned a cool $1 million and joins former champs Juha Helppi (2002), Erick Lindgren (2003), Eric Brenes (2004), Freddy Deeb (2005), Devon Miller (2006) and Travis Rice (2007) in this exclusive club.

These are the final results:

1) Matt Brady - $1,000,000
2) Johan Storakers - $486,000
3) Jeff Papola - $250,000
4) Allie Prescott - $150,000
5) Brandon Terry - $116,400
6) Brian Malczewski - $83,120
7) Jason Pohl - $58,500
