The WSOP 2009 will be here before you know it, and the best way to get a seat with out putting down $10,000 of your own money is to let an online poker room pay your way through an online qualifier. The best 2009 WSOP qualifiers are being held at PokerStars (all users) and Ladbrokes Poker (no Americans).
Here's how you can qualifiy:
Satellite Tournaments
A satellite tournament is a tournament that offers a seat to a an event as the prize, and costs less than the prize seat. This is a standard way for players to get seats to the WSOP.
Winner Take All Satellites
In this satellite only one player will win the prize package, so your strategy has to be in support of this goal. Aggressive poker will hold sway - there is no point coming in second, so you need to get chips early and often.
Low Buy-in Satellites
Because you are in a tough spot as the small stack in later rounds of a tournament, you need to build up a decent chip stack. If you don't, you will find yourself under attack just because of your chip stack - you will be seen as an easy target. Because this is a low buy in satellite you should be willing to take some risks in building your stack early - try stealing a good many blinds.
High Buy-in Satellites
If you are paying hundreds of dollars to play in a satellite, you are playing a high buy in event. In these events you can expect more than one or two packages to be up for grabs - which means you don't have to win the event, but you do have to come close. You want to play conservatively in this type of event due to the amount of money at risk -- but look for those who bought in over their heads, as they will be afraid of contests, and you can bluff them off their hands in certain situations.
You know who won a WSOP satellite last year? Peter Eastgate, the winner of the whole World Series of Poker - and he won his via a Ladbrokes Poker Vegas Dream package
