Ladbrokes Poker takes aim at Harrah's WSOP 2007
Ladbrokes Millions to rival the WSOP
LadbrokesPoker announced today it will invest £3 million (5.6 million U.S. Dollars) in its 2007 Poker Million Tournament with the aim of turning it into a European competitor to Harrah's WSOP Tourney.
Motivated in part by the U.S. Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act, the managing director of e-gaming for Ladbrokes, John O'Reilly, said that more than half the players qualifying for the U.S. competition would be hit by the U.S. ban on online gambling.
"The Act opens up a huge opportunity for an off-line poker tournament in Europe to rival the World Series."
"Poker Million is already the biggest poker event in Europe and we believe that by investing in the tournament and changing the format, London may rival the World Series."
The winner of this year's Poker Million will receive a total of £1.2 million ($2,250,000).
Ladbrokes runs a closed poker platform so the only way to qualify for the Ladbrokes Poker Million is to play at ( Ladbrokespoker - $100 free )
