Blue Square Poker adding £200,000 Pounds to 2008 GUKPT!
The inaugural year of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour concluded in early December when Londoner Michael Ellis won the Grand Final, walking away with just over £200,000.
In 2008 Blue Square Poker , the exclusive online poker room partner of the GUKPT, is going to match Ellis's payday by adding £200,000 in prizes to the second year of the tour, which resumes in January in Brighton. Whereas in 2007, most of the added prize money for the GUKPT went to event winners, in 2008 it will be used to add value to a greater number of events.
The most significant way in which this money is being used is in the creation of a Champion of Champion's event that will take place at the end of the year. The winners of all tournaments (main events and side events) on the GUKPT calendar will be awarded a seat in the £75,000 event. The GUKPT Leaderboard, won in 2007 by David Smith will have its prize money increased from £10,000 to £30,000.
A significant amount of money will also be used to seed the prize pools of live satellites for GUKPT events in all 20 poker rooms in the Grosvenor/G casinos group. The winners of each of the nine £1,000 main events will receive a free entry to the £3,000 Grand Final and there will be £10,000 added to an online GUKPT festival that will take place in late July on Blue Square Poker.
