Bodog Waterford Open won by Sean Prenderville
After three action packed days the Bodog Waterford Open main event was won by Sean Prenderville who took home €18,000 and the Waterford Crystal trophy.
Three events took place at Bodog's first official visit to Europe, the three day €500 main event, a 2 day €250 side event and a one day €100 event which all drew over 300 players from across Ireland and the UK.
Keith McDonnell, managing director of Bodog Europe said, "We couldn't have asked for more from the first ever Bodog sponsored poker event in Europe. We've seen some great poker played over the weekend and we'd like to thank the 300 players that took part for making it such a great success. We hope we gave the players a taste of what's to come from Bodog and our congratulations go out to Sean and the other winners.”
Going into day three the chip leader for the Main Event was Mick G with over €320,000 chips. Mick looked set to dominate day three and go on to win but his fairytale weekend came to an abrupt end when he ran his pocket kings into the brilliantly played quads of Sean Prenderville.
After some great play Sean Prenderville and Willie Fitzpatrick struck a deal when down to two in the main event with Sean taking €18k and Willie taking €14k. After a brief heads-up Sean left Waterford with the bragging rights and a rather nice piece of Waterford crystal after calling Willie's all-in preflop. Sean turned over 77 and Willie a Ten Ten. A seven was drawn on the river and the rest is history.
The famous Bodog Girls were a big draw throughout the weekend with the sponsored lounge proving an extremely popular haunt for the players as they tried out their best chat-up lines. Fortunately the poker was of a higher standard than the one liners being overheard over much of the weekend. With thousands of visitors to the live online updates Sean has now become a name to be reckoned with on the Irish poker circle.
In the side events, Emmet Gough took down the €250 event after being the chipleader from the very start. Galway man, Derek Cosgrove, overcame tough local opposition to win the €100 event which at times overshadowed the Main Event final table thanks to some colourful characters who were celebrating just about every hand, good or bad.
