Chris Wins Moore at the Wynn
Chris Moore finished 3rd at last year's Wynn Classic Main Event. This year, he was determined to do better…and he did. Moore is the winner of the 2008 $10,000 Wynn Classic Championship.
As the final nine headed to the Wynn Poker room on March 19, 2008 around noon, the biggest name remaining in the field was tournament veteran Eugene Todd. Todd, who hails from Brooklyn, NY, was on the shorter end of the stacks with just 236k remaining. The 5th place finisher at the 2007 WPT Borgata Poker Open couldn't overcome the chip deficit. He hit the rails in ninth.
The next elimination was Alemu Tesema. Tesema won his way into the event via a freeroll held by the poker room. His was taken out by Blake Cahail. Cahail, for his part, made it all the way to three-handed play. As the shortest stack of the remaining players, Cahail was facing an uphill battle. He made his last stand with a Q,10 in the hole and found himself up against the pocket hooks of Ryan Young. Young, a resident of Torrance, CA, has earned nearly $1.3 million on the tournament circuit since 2005.
After eliminating Cahail, Young had the chip lead against “Toph” Moore. However, this wouldn't last long as Moore hit a key flop with a J ,5 in the hole. After overtaking the lead, Moore kept the pressure on and whittled away at his opponent's stack. On the final hand, Moore held pocket cowboys. The board held up and he claimed the title and the nearly $700,000 in cash for his efforts.
Here are the final results:
1) Chris Moore - $692,286 2) Ryan Young - $355,020 3) Blake Cahail - $177,510 4) Ardavan Yazdi - $95,855 5) Jace Markgraf - $71,004 6) Larry Wright - $53,253 7) Ricky Chow - $44,378 8) Alemu Tesema - $35,502 9) Eugene Todd - $31,952
