Irish Poker Championship Galway kicks off today
Europe's first major tournament of 2008 gets underway today at the Radisson Hotel & Spa in Galway.
The IPC is now in its third year, having recently changed sponsorship and moved from Dublin to a flashy new home at the Galway Radisson. The main event is a €2,000 NLHE buy-in expected to draw between 400-500 runners and a prize pool of up to €1 million.
This year the four day event will feature some of the biggest names in the game. Scheduled to attend – and early favourites from the bookies to win it all - are recent Poker Million VI champ and Hendon Mob member, Joe Beevers, and the elusive Noel Furlong, winner of the 1999 WSOP Main Event. Another player to watch is Manchester's Julian Gardner, who is also coming off a final table appearance at the Poker Million VI, where he finished in third. Other notables include Bruno Fitoussi, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott, Roy Brindley and Marcel "The Flying Dutchman" Luske.
It's too late to qualify online for the IPC but you can register now and qualify for the Irish Open 2008 at paddypowerpoker
