Mike Matusow Wins Event #18 at the 2008 World Series of Poker
Prior to entering the final table of the eighteenth event at the 2008 World Series of Poker, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow was already a winner. Last year Ted Forrest challenged Matusow to drop 50 pounds in time for this year's WSOP.
Matusow was supposed to go down from 231 pounds to 181 pounds. If he did that, he'd collect a cool $100,000. Well, on June 3rd, the folks at ESPN weighed The Mouth in at a lean and mean 179 lbs. Forrest made good on the prop bet.
However, if you think that losing weight is tough, then you've never sat at a final table with Tony G, Tom Schneider, Erick Lindgren, Barry Greenstein, David Benyamine and Jeffrey Lisandro. These were exactly the big name players that the talented Matusow faced in the $5,000 No-Limit Deuce to Seven Triple Draw event. Despite the fact that Lindgren had the chip lead as the final table got underway, Matusow rose through the ranks, taking his fellow Full Tilter out in fourth place and paving the way for a heads-up match-up with irascible Aussie/Italian Lisandro.
However, that match-up didn't last long and Matusow claimed his third World Series of Poker bracelet as well as the $537,862 in first-place prize money.
These are the final results:
1) Mike Matusow - $537,862 2) Jeffrey Lisandro - $347,004 3) Barry Greenstein – $225,552 4) Erick Lindgren - $156,151 5) Tom Schneider - $104,101 6) Tony G - $78,075 7) David Benyamine - $58,990 8) Tom Dwan - $45,110 9) Dario Alioto - $34,700
