Rep Porter Takes 9th Bracelet at 2008 World Series of Poker
Ralph “Rep” Porter is a graduate of the University of Washington. Before turning pro, the affable guy was an equity options trader. He earned his first cash at the 2008 WSOP in Event #6, a $1,500 buy-in Omaha Hi/Lo tournament. His 72nd finish netted him a cool $3,070. Perhaps Rep used some of that windfall to buy his way into Event #9, a $1,500 short-handed NLHE event. The man from Woodinville, WA was just one of 1,236 entrants in the tournament.
He sat down at the final table with 660,000 chips, which placed him in the middle of the pack behind John Conkright and Michiel Brummelhuis. Porter took out Brummelhuis in sixth place, receiving a good portion of the Dutch player's stack. Conkright hit the rail in fourth position. At that point, another Porter, by the name of Devin, emerged to clash with Rep. Unfortunately, Devin, who is not related to Rep in any way, was sent to the rail by Nathan Templeton. Templeton then battled the remaining Porter in heads-up play.
Templeton faced an uphill battle due to Porter's massive stack. As a result, it didn't take long for Rep to defeat Templeton and lay claim to his first WSOP bracelet and the $372,929 cash prize.
Here are the results:
1) Ralph “Rep” Porter - $372,843 2) Nathan Templeton - $231,982 3) Devin Porter - $151,843 4) John Conkright - $101,228 5) Anatoly Shilyuk - $70,860 6) Michiel Brummelhuis - $53,314
