WPT Championship – David Chiu Defeats Gus Hansen Heads Up
Gus Hansen sat down at the World Poker Tour final table with a big chip lead. The Great Dane was poised to win this championship. He took out four of the final six players in just 22 hands. As he began heads-up play against Chinese-born former restaurateur David Chiu, Gus had a 5 to 1 chip lead.
It seemed like this tournament was in the bag. However, Chiu, who holds five WSOP bracelets and is one of the best NLHE players in the world today, had other ideas. Within ten hands, he had doubled up. Less than fifty hands later, he had the title and more than $3.3 million. Hansen, with $1.7 million plus, couldn't pick up his fourth WPT win.
