PokerStars bid farewell to 2006 with a bang. They offered a high-stakes entry into their Sunday Million. The site does this four times a year. The entry this week was $1,000 + 50. Most weeks it's a much more affordable $200 + 16.
Almost 1,100 players high-rolled right into the event which surpassed the million-dollar mark by almost $100,000. The first place finisher was set to cash in over $232,000 and 153 entrants got a late Christmas present. They got some duckets from the online tournament giant.
About an hour into the New Year (EST), the final table got underway. joeaces had the chip lead with 2.3 mil. golfsoc brought up the rear with 571,636. The only person sitting at the final table who didn't hail from the US was Peki30. The Norwegian player would find himself the first one out of the action when crazyButcher caught an ace on the flop and toppled his pocket kings. Ouch!
crazyButcher continued his onslaught and knocked out another player, gobboboy. Soon after, joeaces added to his chip lead by eliminating hard2tel with pocket tens. At least, hard2tel took $31,407.00 away from the table with him.
dim--tix, the eventual winner of $232,845 and first place in the event, began his run for the top by raking in a few big pots, one of which sent golfsoc head-first into the sand trap that was sixth place. A little while later, joeaces would strike again. This time he made short work of The 6 P's Q,J with his dominating K,J. He then sent Baby Rattler to the rail. Baby Rattler tried to steal the blinds with his A,4 but joeaces called with his A,10. The turn brought an ace, but the kickers played and joeaces was on the winning end yet again.
Some may have thought that joeaces was poised to win the event at this point. However, dim--tix was having none of that. He doubled through joeaces and challenged crazyButcher for the chip lead once things got down to three. The three remaining players swapped the lead several times. Finally, joeaces went all-in with three clubs on the flop. It was a semi-bluff. Unfortunately, dim--tix had the nut flush, with the A,10 of clubs. joeaces was drawing dead. He left the game in third place with some $86,000.
Heads-up play didn't last more than five hands as dim--tix pushed all-in on the turn with his Q,7 in the pocket and two pair on the flop against crazyButcher. crazyButcher called with top pair. He had an A,4 in the hole. The final board read, A,Q,7,9,3. crazyButcher received almost $130,000 for his efforts and dim--tix got over 100k more for the win.
Here are the final table results:
1. dim--tix - $232,845.00 2. crazyButcher - $128,118.90 3. joeaces - $86,640.00 4. Baby Rattler - $69,312.00 5. The 6 P's - $55,774.50 6. golfsoc - $42,237.00 7. hard2tel - $31,407.00 8. gobboboy - $21,660.00 9. Peki30 - $12,454.50
