VOLCANO360 Erupts at Sunday Million
It seems that the hottest ticket on the planet this weekend was the Superbowl. The contest between the highly-favored Patriots and the underdog NY Giants was watched by nearly everyone in the United States, which dropped attendance at the online weekend tournaments a wee bit.
PokerStars lost nearly 1,000 entrants from its January-high. Only 6,266 people paid to play in the Sunday Million. Together, they generated a tasty prize pool of $1,253,200. 900 folks made money, and the final table ended pretty quickly. jamb0ne and chris935 were the chip leaders going in. They talked chop. However, the wheeling and dealing might've been a wee bit premature as jamb0ne hit the rail in sixth place, earning almost $29k for his efforts.
chris935 would fare a bit better, heading to the final two with a more than three to one chip lead over VOLCANO360. However, VOLCANO360 came back from near-defeat on the very first hand of heads-up play after going all-in with his A,10. The ten on the flop gave him the lead over chris935's A,J and brought the match back to even. Six hands later, the chips went all-in again. chris935's A,10 did nothing against the pocket sevens of his opponent.
VOLCANO360 emerged victorious, claiming the title and the full $180,210.16 that went along with it.
Here are the results:
1) VOLCANO360 - $180,210.16 2) chris935 - $93,864.68 3) WiLDmAN75 - $67,547.48 4) Kelvan - $52,634.40 5) IG0tDibs - $40,227.72 6) jamb0ne - $28,823.60 7) RabidMonkey0 - $20,677.80 8) stpauli111 - $12,532 9) rroyrag - $7,769.84
Full Tilt played it safe on Sunday. They dropped the $750,000 guarantee and swapped it out for a Super Sunday $500,000 Guarantee. This proved to be a wise decision as only 3,048 entrants played in the event, creating a $609,600 prize pool.
scatterbrain123 had a slight chip lead as the final table action got underway. However, pleace would claim the first two KOs of the table and add at least two more to his hit list as the night wore on. Both pleace and scatterbrain123 made it all the way to heads-up action. pleace had quite the lead with about 4/5 of the chips in play. The end came in about 16 hands with pleace earning a solid victory.
These are the final standings:
1) pleace - $109,148.88 2) scatterbrain123 - $66,446.40 3) nickyr141955 - $43,281.60 4) hellraiser88 - $33,832.80 5) lanceboe1 - $25,298.40 6) Beaker1 - $18,714.72 7) joeramos333 - $14,020.80 8) gnordy - $10,972.80 9) NSXT2 - $8,168.64
Ultimate Bet saw a sharp dip in attendance as well. Only 800 gathered to play in the $200,000 Guarantee which required a $40,000 overlay by the online home of eleven time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth to meet that guarantee. The final two players were the biggest beneficiaries of that sweet overlay. sean4040 took home $46,000 for his first-place finish and Priit, the second place finisher, received $28,000.
Here are the results:
1) sean4040 - $46,000 2) Priit - $28,000 3) mkind0516 - $18,500 4) carmilla - $13,000 5) thedude130j - $11,000 6) A__Webb - $9,000 7) bma1205 - $7,000 8) SassyTexan - $5,000 9) AawwwNuts - $3,500 10) TomPhoolery - $2,000
