Farzad Rouhani Earns a Win in Event #10 at 2008 World Series of Poker

Farzad “Freddy” Rouhani entered the final table of the $2,500 Omaha/Stud Hi-Low championship as the chip leader. In 2006, the man from Gaithersburg, Maryland earned more than $427,000 for his second-place finish in a $2,000 NLHE event at the World Series of Poker so final table pressure wasn't exactly a foreign proposition for him. However, this time Rouhani was facing incredible odds – and a truly stacked table with foes such as Miami John Cernuto, John Racener and Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi.

Mizrachi, sporting stubble on his face and recently shaven scalp, got eliminated on a hand of stud hi/lo. Yueqi Zhu, who took 438th place at the 2007 WSOP Main Event, defeated the former World Poker Tour champion, scooping the pot and sending The Grinder to the rail in eighth place.

John Racener, winner of the 2007 WSOP Circuit Championship in Atlantic City, also succumbed during a round of stud 8/b. He was eliminated by Rouhani, who added even more chips to his dominant stack. Rouhani, for his part, played an aggressive and fearless game. Rouhani also took out multiple WSOP bracelet winner Miami John Cernuto with a flush on the river in a hand of Omaha 8/b.

Cernuto took down $86,117 for third place, leaving Rouhani to face Harvard grad Tom Chambers in heads-up play. Despite being at a heavy chip disadvantage, the former actuary gave Rouhani a run for his money. On the final hand, however, Rouhani made quads on the river and scooped the low portion of the pot to seal his opponent's fate.

Rouhani gratefully accepted his first WSOP bracelet and the $232,911 that went along with it.

Here are the final results:

1) Farzad Rouhani - $232,911 2) Tom Chambers - $142,784 3) John Cernuto - $86,117 4) Yueqi "Rich" Zhu - $63,807 5) Gregory Pappas - $48,190 6) John Racener - $37,481 7) Daniel Mowczan - $28,557 8) Michael Mizrachi - $24,095
