Oliver Jones Wins Grand Final of UK Masters Poker League

The Masters Poker League held its first Grand Final on June 14, 2008. All top qualifying league players from the three qualifying seasons headed to the Castle Gate Casino in Dudley. The top three finishers were expected to receive some sweet prizes as follows:

Registration began at 11.00 AM. Players were eager to get started. Before long, the 70 qualifiers made their way to the tables, each hoping to win his or her way to Vegas. It took about 435 minutes for the first casualty to fall. After that the pace quickened and the eliminations went much quicker. Before long, the final table was set.

Adam Handley from The Croswells Inn was the third place finisher and the first such individual to cash. This left Phill Pearsall, also of Croswells, and Oliver Jones, from The Perry Hill Tavern. Ollie, as he prefers to be called, had a bit of a chip advantage as heads-up play began. There was talk of a deal being struck, but that was quickly quashed.

Phill soldiered on, but didn't last more than a few hands. Ollie claimed the title, the trophy and the first place prize.
