Frank Gary Patiently Claims Bracelet in $1,500 Mixed Hold'em Event at 2008 World Series of Poker

731 players entered the 41st event at the 2008 World Series of Poker, a $1,500 Mixed Hold'em competition. They drove up the prize pool to $996,450. 72 players made bank including Liv Boeree, Rolf Slotboom and Nam Le.

Mats Gavatin of Stockholm, Sweden held the chip lead as the final table got underway with 405k. Nick Binger, who had the second largest stack (and is also the brother of well-known pro Michael Binger), ran through the final table like gang busters. The Raleigh, NC resident busted out the first six players including Gavatin (seventh position).

Unfortunately, Binger, who looked like he was a shoo-in for his first WSOP bracelet, would suffer a few blows to his chip stack once the action got down to three-handed. Vulnerable, he was eliminated by Humble, TX's John Tamayo and his pocket queens in third position.

Tamayo was on the losing end of some big pots and found himself up against it rather quickly in the heads-up match-up. Frank Gary, an amateur from Fort Myers, Florida, showed patience, good card sense and targeted aggression. All three skills paid off for him and he walked away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet and $219,562.00.

Here are the final results:

1) Frank Gary - $219,562 2) Jonathan Tamayo - $140,093 3) Nick Binger - $84,814 4) Chris Rentes - $69,348 5) Alex Jalali - $56,875 6) David Machowsky - $44,901 7) Mats Gavatin - $34,923 8) Michael Chu - $27,439 9) David Sorger - $19,956
