Halfrek Wins Second Title at FTOPS VIII 2-Day Event
Phil Ivey is one of the best poker players in the world today. He's on everyone's short list to win the WSOP Main Event. He's already got six bracelets. In 2008, Ivey took down his first WPT title. Obviously, Ivey, who many refer to as the "Tiger Woods of Poker", knows a bit about this game.
He was a natural fit to host the 2-day $2,500 buy-in NLHE competition that began on Saturday, May 17th over at his online home, Full Tilt Poker . Ivey was one of 899 players who took to the felt for this tournament, driving up the prize pool from a guaranteed $1.5 million to a grand total of $2,247,500.
The pros came out in droves for this tournament. Ivey, himself, didn't make bank in the event...although someone using his name reached 5th place. Thomas Bihl (63rd place), Bruce Buffer (30th place), PearlJammed (22nd place) and Erich Kollmann (12th place) did earn some cash in the tourney as did well-known non-FTP players Travis "TravestyFund" Rice and Mike "TIMEX" McDonald.
When all was said and done, Halfrek won his second title of the series. Halfrek, a Dutchman who took down Event #11 on Monday May 12, 2008, claimed this tournament and added more than half a million dollars to his coffers (as well as overtaking the FTOPS VIII leaderboard top spot).
These are the final results:
1) Halfrek - $516,925.00 2) JRShaffy - $325,887.50 3) IfHeDiesHeDies - $241,606.25 4) philivey567 - $185,418.75 5) binrich - $140,468.75 6) ckingusc - $101,137.50 7) TheStein - $67,425.00 8) lilfishy897 - $52,591.50 9) Hoss_TBF - $38,207.50
