Online poker is alive and well, not just in the United States but all around the world. If you have any doubt, think on this for a minute. This weekend each site hit their weekly tournament guarantee, including Ultimate Bet and Bodog. Full Tilt has been able to raise their guarantee to $400,000 without any problem. It was a record online weekend, and I predict we haven't seen the end of the rise in big tourney online play. In fact, I think we're just getting started.
But enough about my opinions…let's get to the action.
Full Tilt Poker's $400,000 Guaranteed almost hit the $500,000 mark with its impressive prize pool of $494,600. Almost 2,500 players entered the event. Over 350 players made bank. First prize earned almost $100k. Not bad at all, eh?
imgrinding, who took first place in the event, came into the final table with a whopping chip lead of 2.7 million. His closest competitor held 845k. Kush789 was knocked out in the first hand of final table action. His A,7 caught no love from the board and ESPIGA took Kush 's remaining chips with an A,J in the hole.
jrbrick took responsibility for the next two knockouts. After that, he let ESPIGA have the honors again. ESPIGA kicked superaids to the curb in seventh place with trip jacks – and some help from the board.
At this point, imgrinding's lead wasn't nearly as impressive as it was at the beginning of the final table. Instead of eliminating short stacks, he doubled 'em up. (Doncha hate when that happens? I do too!) imgrinding fought for his tournament life against jrbrick and rivered a lucky flush that gave him the much-needed double-up. A few hands later, he would hand jrbrick his walking papers by making another flush. At least jrbrick can see a therapist for his flush-phobia with the $22,000 he earned for the fifth place finish.
im_the_dirt then banished lackingaces from the felt. His jack kicker proved to be enough to do the deed. ESPIGA found himself in chip trouble as three-handed play began. imgrinding knocked him out by making a pair of queens on the flop. This put imgrinding in good position as heads-up play began. However, im_the_dirt didn't make the win easy. He doubled up at least once before the end came.
The final hand went down like this. Both players put their chips all-in pre-flop. imgrinding had im_the_dirt covered. imgrinding held pocket threes and im_the_dirt pocketed two ducks. The flop brought im_the_dirt a set of twos. Unfortunately the turn brought imgrinding an unlikely three...and a bigger set.
Here are the final results:
1) imgrinding - $90,734.37 2) im_the_dirt - $55,691.96 3) ESPIGA - $36,452.02 4) lackingaces - $29,082.48 5) jrbick - $22,009.70 6) superaids - $15,827.20 7) vinson135 - $11,623.10 8) jrbrown2bsu - $9,100.64 9) Kush789 - $6,924.40
Ultimate Bet didn't have to pay out an overlay this weekend. Yippee! There were 1,006 entrants in their $200,000 Weekly Guarantee. Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby, an internet pro, was in the house. He was at 333k and second-chip position going into the final table action. kasedowgy, who won the event, was in first place. ComeOnPhish was the short stack and the first one eliminated. ComeOnPhish also made 12 th place in PokerStars' Sunday Million so he had a pretty good weekend regardless.
TheWacoKidd and kasedowgy were in first and second place right up until heads-up play began. They decimated the competition. Overall, the final table didn't last more than an hour or so. The final hand saw kasedowgy with a Qc, 8d. TheWacoKidd went all-in with a straight-draw after the flop. (He held a Jd,10d in the hole.) The turn and the river brought a four and a five, giving kasedowgy the win and over $44,000.
Here are the final results:
1) kasedowgy - $44,264 2) TheWacoKidd - $25,914.56 3) CASINOICE - $17,906.80 4) Traumatize - $13,078 5) jenny5146 - $10,563 6) Eric-Stoner - $8,450.40 7) jcman - $6,438.40 8) Habibi1 - $4,527 9) thefishleader - $3,420.40 10) ComeOnPhish_ - $2,012
PartyPoker brought in 1,103 players. The total prize pool for their $200,000 Guaranteed was bumped up to a respectable $220,600. 150 players cashed, including one XX_GALTEN_XX who made the final table for the fourth straight week.
BadBeat1940, who hails from Sweden , started the final table in the chip lead. He took home first place and $46,326 when all was said and done. Prinsen14 drew first blood by sending ZlatiPrst to the rails. WayBetterHand had a short stack and the better hand pre-flop with his pocket sevens. However, after an unkind board, his competitor, jarza2001 made good with his K,J in the hole.
PyroWalter got the wind knocked out of his sails when he went up against indicasteve who completed his open-ended straight draw and took the bulk of Pyro's chips. Soon after, BadBeat1940 finished the job. XX_GALTEN_XX then ran out of gas when he went all-in with a Q,10. congo152 made the call with an A,Q. The board brought a queen and an ace for congo and XX_GALTEN_XX took his seventh place winnings of $6,287.10 with him. Maybe next week, XX!
BadBeat then dealt someone a bad beat when he caught two fives. jarza2001's head is probably still spinning from that K-O. With blinds at 30,000/60,000, BadBeat pulled out a runner-runner flush and made DoctrHistory well, history. Prinsen14 and indicasteve were the next two to fall, leaving congo152 and BadBeat1940 to duke it out for the top spot.
Both players had plenty of chips and were aggressive. The match was a good one, but in the end, there could be only one. After flopping a full house, sevens over threes, there could be no doubt that this was BadBeat's week.
Here are the final results:
1) BadBeat1940 - $46,326 2 ) congo152 - $26,472 3) indicasteve - $15,993.50 4 ) Prinsen14 - $12,684.50 5 ) DoctrHistory - $10,478.50 6) jarza2001 - $8,272.50 7) XX_GALTEN_XX - $6,287.10 8) PyroWalter - $4,191.40 9) WayBetterHand - $3,198.70 10) ZlatiPrst - $2,206
Bodog had a banner week. The site surpassed its 100k Guarantee for the first time ever on Sunday. There were 1,034 players and a total prize pool of $103,400. Internet pros Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin and Adam “Roothlus” Levy were both at the final table. Da Lourd entered the final table sitting atop the chip heap. However, he would be knocked off his pedestal soon enough. He learned that calling two short-stacks isn't always the wisest decision. (I coulda told him that!)
basebaldy and Roothlus then got into a tussle after a raise by kagle on the button. basebaldy's pocket Aces nearly crippled Roothlus after both players went all-in. kagle wisely folded at that point. This hand may have led to Roothlus' departure in eighth. basebaldy was eliminated in sixth place himself, after getting short-stacked.
With the pros gone, the other players saw themselves bunched up between 410k and 590k in chips. After a few more choice eliminations, kagle and lawdork1980 faced each other in a long heads-up match. The two battled for over 40 minutes, which for Bodog has to be some kind of record. On the final hand, lawdork pushed all-in pre-flop with a Qh, Jh. kagle called and showed his pocket tens. The flop gave lawdork a pair of queens and the lead. However, lawdork also made his back-door flush on the turn, sending kagle to the rails in second place with $14,476.
Here are the final results:
1) lawdork1980 - $25,850 2) kagle - $14,476 3) 1148997 - $9,306 4) ODDSareEYEwin - $6,721 5) Da Lourd - $5,480.20 6) basebaldy - $4,446.20 7) TheRealFastRay - $3,412.20 8) Roothlus - $2,378.20 9) RTRSHARK - $1,551
